Monsanto Company and Illinois Crop Improvement Association expand trait introgression services agreement

Champaign, Illinois, USA
June 24, 2012

Monsanto Company and the Illinois Crop Improvement Association (IL Crop) have added one more trait technology to the parties’ trait introgression services agreement. The stacked combination of Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Yield® and Bt soybean technologies is now part of IL Crop’s trait introgression services that facilitates access of the traits to licensees authorized by Monsanto. This provides the licensees with broader and faster access to new Monsanto soybean trait technologies while maintaining full regulatory compliance and comprehensive stewardship. IL Crop already provides trait introgression services for Monsanto’s Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Yield and dicamba-tolerant stacked traits.

By allowing IL Crop to provide centralized trait introgression services to authorized licensees, Monsanto can effectively support its commitment to continued stewardship and containment of regulated material, while allowing licensees the flexibility to incorporate new traits at a pace more suitable to their business objectives. This opportunity will allow licensees more options and time to develop superior varieties for farmers faster.

Miriam Paris, PhD. Monsanto Agronomic Trait Project Lead, Oilseeds Crop Team
We’re excited to be working with IL Crop because this situation provides real benefits across all channels. This is good for licensees because it gives them access to the technology earlier and allows IL Crop and Monsanto to effectively manage stewardship of regulated material. At the same time, farmers will benefit from this earlier access because licensees will have more time to develop enhanced soybean germplasm options containing cutting-edge technology.”

Dennis Thompson, PhD Chief Executive Officer, Illinois Crop Improvement
We are pleased that Monsanto has expanded the scope of our trait introgression services agreement to include the stacked combination of Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Yield® and Bt soybean technologies. IL Crop will work diligently with Monsanto to deliver well coordinated stewardship services for regulated materials thus allowing licensees a rapid and secure means of introgressing new technologies into their germplasm. New and better varieties will become more quickly available to farmers.”
