- Samruddhi approach as business blueprint for the region
BASF has appointed Dr. Raman Ramachandran as Senior Vice President of the company’s Crop Protection division for the Asia Pacific region. In his new role, Ramachandran will drive the division’s ambitious growth plans in the region, which saw an 11 percent increase in sales last year.
“Raman has made enormous contributions to BASF since he joined in 2000,” said Markus Heldt, President of BASF Crop Protection. “He was instrumental in putting together our growth strategy for India and subsequently for the entire Asia Pacific region.”
Ramachandran, who received a PhD in Agriculture from the Waite Agricultural Research Institute, University of Adelaide, Australia, joined BASF in 2000 and has held various senior management positions in the Asia Pacific region.
Last year, BASF announced a new annual sales target of €1 billion by 2020 for the Asia Pacific region. One integral piece of this growth strategy has been the Samruddhi farmer training and business program.
The Samruddhi program began in 2007 in the province of Madhya Pradesh, India. It connected BASF agronomists with 30,000 soybean growers to boost their yields and profitability sustainably. Five years later, the program now involves over 225,000 soybean, onion and potato farmers across India, Sri Lanka and Indonesia. It serves as a blueprint for business growth throughout the Asia Pacific region and other emerging markets.

Die BASF ernennt Dr. Raman Ramachandran zum Senior Vice President des Unternehmensbereichs Crop Protection in der Region Asien-Pazifik. In seiner neuen Rolle wird Dr. Ramachandran den ehr-geizigen Wachstumskurs des Unternehmensbereichs Crop Protection für die Region fortsetzen; letztes Jahr konnte dort ein Umsatzwachstum von 11 Prozent erzielt werden.
„Seit seinem Einstieg bei der BASF im Jahr 2000 trug Raman entscheidend zum Unternehmenserfolg bei“, betont Markus Heldt, Leiter des BASF-Unternehmensbereichs Crop Protection. „Er war ein wesentlicher Motor unserer Wachstumsstrategie in Indien und der gesamten Region Asien-Pazifik.”
Dr. Raman Ramachandran promovierte am Waite Agricultural Research Institut der Universität Adelaide, Australien, im Fachbereich Agrarwissenschaften. Seit dem Jahr 2000 arbeitet er bei der BASF in verschiedenen leitenden Managementpositionen in der Region Asien-Pazifik.
Im letzten Jahr veröffentlichte BASF ein neues Umsatzziel von jährlich einer Milliarde Euro für die Region Asien-Pazifik ab dem Jahr 2020. Ein wesentlicher Bestandteil dieser Wachstumsstrategie ist das Samruddhi-Projekt, ein Schulungs- und Geschäftsprogramm für Landwirte.
Das Samruddhi-Projekt startete im Jahr 2007 in der Provinz Madhya Pradesh im Herzen Indiens. In dem Projekt arbeiteten die Agrarwissenschaftler der BASF eng mit 30.000 Sojabauern zusammen, um deren Erträge und Rentabilität nachhaltig zu steigern. Fünf Jahre später umfasst das Samruddhi-Projekt bereits 225.000 Landwirte, die Soja, Zwiebeln und Kartoffeln in Indien, Sri Lanka und Indonesien anbauen. Dieser Samruddhi-Ansatz dient als Vorbild für die Entwicklung des Geschäfts in der gesamten Region Asien-Pazifik, aber auch in anderen Wachstumsmärkten.
