It is our very sad duty to inform CSTA’s members that Tim Tregunno has lost his long and courageous battle with cancer.
Tim was a champion of the Canadian Seed Industry. His company: Halifax Seed Company is the oldest, continuously operated, family owned seed company in Canada and the Tregunno family has always made a strong contribution to the CSTA. Tim was the second generation Tregunno to participate at the CSTA. He served on the Board of Directors in 1997, and stepped into the President’s chair in 2003-04, During that year, he helped to guide the association through a complicated and difficult court challenge that went all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada. The win at the Supreme Court was a win for agricultural innovation. One could say that it helped to set the very positive and proactive approach of the CSTA for years to come. Tim was also a key driver of the CSTA Garden Seed and Organic Committee and was always willing to be called on for information, advice and guidance on the complicated issues facing the garden seed industry. The CSTA Board of Directors recognized his contribution to the Association and the Seed Industry earlier this year by awarding him with the CSTA Honourary Membership Award.
Tim Tregunno will be best remembered for his sense of humour and his welcoming manner. That was truly demonstrated with he brought the CSTA to Nova Scotia for our 2004 Annual Meeting in Halifax.
Tim had many, many friends at the CSTA and we were all lucky to have worked, played and laughed with him. Our thoughts are with his family as they deal with this most difficult loss.
A service will be held at The Cunard Centre on 961 Marginal Rd, Halifax, Nova Scotia, March 2, 2012 at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, Tim requested that donations be made to the Department of Urology at Dalhousie University or the VON.
