New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry issues an amendment to the Import Health Standard for Seed for Sowing

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) has issued an amendment to the Import Health Standard for Seed for Sowing. The amended standard is dated 5 December 2011 and is available on the MAF website: http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/files/ihs/155-02-05.pdf

A summary of the changes are prescribed below.

  • Addition of section 2.2.7 ‘Importation of Seed Products’ to clearly define the import requirements for seed products for propagation (e.g. growing kits containing seed for sowing).
  • Addition of section 2.2.8 ‘ Seed for Sowing of New Zealand Origin’. This section clarifies the import requirements for Seed of New Zealand origin returning from overseas.
  • Addition of section 2.4 ‘Equivalence’ to clarify the need for all requests for equivalence to be assessed prior to import. A permit to import will be issued for all approved equivalences.
  • Correction to Fragaria schedule to remove ‘Ribes’ name from phytosanitary certificate requirements.
