Full speed ahead
Grassland technology, accounting for 65 percent in the agricultural technology sector, is the main source of sales, followed by tillage at 21 percent. Compared to the previous year, the positive market conditions in grassland produced a increase of 26 percent in total. Tillage and seed drills developed very well over the same period to increase by a sensational 46 percent, helped by product innovations in this sector as well as a sound increase in grain crop prices, which boosted farmers' incomes. Sales in the core markets of Austria, Germany and Switzerland saw major growth. Pöttinger also managed to grow original spare parts business by eight percent compared to the previous year.
140 years of more success with Pöttinger
Pöttinger has been working for the success of its customers for 140 years. The company's history started at a festival in 1871, when Franz Pöttinger, a clock maker, founded his company. Rooted in agricultural machinery from the very beginning, he produced Austria's first forage cutting machine. Pioneering developments, such as the self-propelled hay rake in 1960, and industry-leading self-loading wagon technology, earned Pöttinger an international reputation.
Pöttinger sees its central task as a commitment to developing agricultural technology that promotes all aspects of farming continuing into the future. After all, everyone needs agriculture. For agricultural machinery manufacturers, sustainability and innovation mean focussing on the development and needs of people. That is the only way to guarantee the highest standards in designing new products. The objectives are solutions and systems that serve agriculture and people. The combination of our employees' know-how and the ongoing integration of experience and wishes from our customers is the guarantee for customer-specific, purpose-driven solutions.
Strong on the domestic market – record sales in Austria
As a family-run business rich in tradition, Pöttinger naturally has close ties to the Austrian market and has grown with it. Quality from Austria is in demand among domestic farmers. Yet again Pöttinger has managed to achieve record sales in Austria: turnover grew by more than eight percent on the previous year. As a result, Austria is still one of the strongest individual markets, accounting for 17 percent of total sales.
Internationalisation boosts growth
Success on the domestic market has also come together with ongoing internationalisation. In the financial year under review the export share amounted to 83 percent with around EUR 195 million of sales revenues from international business.
Around 65 percent of agricultural technology turnover was attributable to five countries: Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland and Czech Republic. The 'top five' countries for turnover growth in terms of absolute machine sales compared to the previous year are Germany, France, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Estonia.
Pöttinger core markets are pioneers in market development
In Germany, a sensational increase in turnover of 40 percent was achieved during the last financial year compared to the previous year. As a result, the German market has exceeded all expectations. France and Czech Republic also managed enormous increases compared to the previous year with plus 26 percent (France) and plus 53 percent (Czech Republic). The Italian market also achieved an impressive increase of 27 percent.
Eastern Europe continues to grow well: Pöttinger's own subsidiary in Ukraine is developing extremely well by doubling its turnover on the previous year. Overall, there have been positive developments in all markets where Pöttinger is active, producing encouraging growth in turnover year-on-year.
Agricultural technology is always in demand
The managing directors Heinz and Klaus Pöttinger look towards the future with optimism. "Our motto 'More success with Pöttinger' is more than just a promise to Pöttinger customers; it has also been Pöttinger's guiding principle for the last 140 years. Our innovations and achievements today, such as global leadership in the loader wagon segment, leadership on the Austrian market with seed drill technology, our international pioneering role in front-mounted mowers and our many years of experience in tillage, form the basis for our continued success tomorrow. As a family-run company we combine these leadership features with personal and dedicated customer care, which many customers have come to appreciate as the 'Pöttinger spirit'. In combination with the ongoing significance of agriculture we see huge potential continuing well into the future for agricultural technology, and thus for Pöttinger."
