Reorganization of USDA ARS Sunflower Research Unit

USA
July 18, 2011

Source: National Sunflower Association newsletter

The USDA ARS Sunflower Research Unit has recently taken part in a merger within the Red River Valley Research Center in Fargo in order to provide efficiency, reduce administrative costs and increase research budgets for each scientist.

The new Unit will be called the Sunflower and Plant Biology Research Unit.

The merger was prompted by the retirement of the sunflower research leader and biochemist, Dr. Brady Vick.

The biochemist position will not be filled.

The merger joined sunflower with the Weed Biology Research Unit which consists of four scientists and eight support staff.

Scientists from that Unit include two plant physiologists, a molecular biologist and a molecular geneticist.

Dr. Mike Foley has been appointed research leader for the new unit.
