Australia - 2010 National Variety Trials reveal top performing canola varieties
Australia

Roundup Ready® (RR) varieties produced the highest canola yields in Western Australia’s 2010 National Variety Trials (NVT).
The trials also revealed some very good triazine tolerant (TT) and imidazolinone tolerant (IT) varieties, suggesting growers would be able to access good varieties from all three canola production systems in the future.
Recent years of NVT trial data relating to newer canola varieties show hybrid canola varieties – the result of a first cross produced from two parents – have an increasingly greater yield advantage over open pollinated (OP) types.
The 2010 NVT results and long-term data analysis have been uploaded on to the NVT website www.nvtonline.com.au, where growers can use the Google Maps facility to locate their local trial sites and data.
The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) funds the NVT program, which is managed by the Australian Crop Accreditation System Limited (ACAS). Crops tested include wheat, barley, canola triticale, oats, canola, lupins, lentils, field peas, faba beans and chickpeas.
As well as the latest trial data, the NVT website features other information including the latest stripe rust and blackleg disease resistance ratings.
