European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO) statement ‘Towards a Virtual Institute for AI in Plant Science’ – EPSO Members are invited to join the new ‘AI in Plant Science’ Working Group and confirm joining its first meeting online 9 October 2026

Brussels, Belgium
Sep 8, 2026

As agreed at our General Assembly in June 2026, EPSO is pleased to announce the start of its new Working Group ‘AI in Plant Science’.

The WG will meet first time online on 9th October 2026 to get to know each other and to discuss next steps towards a ‘Virtual Institute for AI in Plant Science’.

Pls discuss this in your organisation and reply to Karin, cc epso@epsomail.org to become a member of this WG best by 22.9.2026 (1-2 expert scientists per organisation interested in this subject). To enrol an expert, please provide the name, function in the institute, 1-3 keywords on the expertise and contact details. Pls confirm as well if the expert(s) will join the 1st meeting on 9.10.2026.

As always, more EPSO scientists can join the online meeting – they will receive the information through their 1-2 appointed WG members.

Interested in the other EPSO WGs?
Discuss in your organisation all EPSO Working Groups (see https://epsoweb.org/working-groups/) and let Karin know if you want to add expert scientists to the other WGs.
EPSO Working Groups collaborate on science advancement, networking, strategy and provide science advice to policy. 1-2 expert scientists per member organisation can join a WG relevant to them, more can join online meetings.
Membership in EPSO WGs is restricted to experts from EPSO Institutional members.

Looking forward to collaborating with you in the AI in Plant Science WG
Björn, Angieszka, Filippo, Jens, Wolfram, Kristina and Karin

Björn Usadel, Angieszka Golicz, Filippo Biscarini, Jens Freitag, Wolfram Weckwerth and Kristina Gruden (AI in Plant Science chairs) and Karin Metzlaff (EPSO Executive Director)
