Cotton Australia has appointed Matt Linnegar as its new General Manager to succeed long-serving General Manager Michael Murray who is retiring in November after 16 years with the organisation.
Cotton Australia CEO Adam Kay said Mr Linnegar brings more than three decades of experience across agriculture, leadership, advocacy, water policy and stakeholder engagement, making him exceptionally well-placed to lead the organisation into its next chapter.
"Matt is highly respected across Australian agriculture, with a proven track record of leading organisations, advocating for rural industries and navigating complex policy challenges,” Mr Kay said.
“He understands the importance of strong industry representation and the critical role agriculture plays in regional communities and the national economy. His leadership experience and deep understanding of rural Australia will help ensure Cotton Australia continues to effectively represent growers and build on the industry's strong reputation.
"We are delighted to welcome him to Cotton Australia at an important time for both our industry and regional Australia."
Mr Linnegar is currently Chief Executive of the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation, a role he has held for the past 12 years. He previously served as Chief Executive Officer of the National Farmers' Federation, where he led work on major national issues including the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.
He has also held senior leadership positions with Murrumbidgee Irrigation and the Ricegrowers' Association of Australia.
Mr Linnegar said he was looking forward to joining Cotton Australia and working alongside growers, industry partners and stakeholders.

The appointment marks an important leadership transition for Cotton Australia as Michael Murray prepares to retire in November.
Mr Kay paid tribute to Mr Murray's significant contribution to the organisation and the Australian cotton industry.
"Michael has been a passionate and tireless advocate for Australian cotton growers and has played a pivotal role in the industry's success during his time with Cotton Australia," Mr Kay said.
“He leaves a lasting legacy across the industry, particularly in the water space, and certainly has big shoes to fill.
"On behalf of the Board, our members and the wider cotton industry, I thank Michael for his outstanding service and leadership and wish him every happiness in retirement."
