The company has been awarded the Catalonia Exponential Leader 2026 distinction by ACCIÓ for its technological innovation in developing solutions for climate-resilient agriculture.
PLANeT Biotech, the first spin-off from CRAG, has been awarded the Catalonia Exponential Leader 2026 distinction. This recognition, granted by ACCIÓ, the agency for business competitiveness of the Department of Business and Labour, identifies the ten most transformative and innovative Catalan companies with the greatest capacity for positive impact on society this year. Ana I. Caño-Delgado, CRAG researcher, CEO and founder of the company, accompanied by co-founder Andrea Giordano, received the award during the annual Exponential Day 2026 event.
Officially launched in 2023, PLANeT Biotech was born with the direct mission to fight the effects of the climate crisis in agriculture. The company materializes the transfer of over twenty-five years of fundamental research of excellence developed at CRAG towards entrepreneurship with a real impact. Building on this foundation, the spin-off has created a new generation of bioactive molecules inspired by the adaptation mechanisms of plants to increase crop resilience to abiotic stress, such as extreme heat and drought.
During the event, Ana Caño-Delgado remarked that this award "validates a vision in which excellence in research is transformed into precision agriculture solutions", demonstrating that scientific research carried out in Catalonia can respond to the challenge of producing more food with less water.
At CRAG, we celebrate the success of our first spin-off. This award is an example of the importance of our research and reaffirms our institutional commitment to knowledge transfer as an essential tool to build a sustainable future in the face of the climate emergency.
