China Potato Expo 2011 and Potato Summit Forum

On 20 April 2011, the opening ceremony of China Potato Expo 2011 and Potato Summit Forum was held in Beijing. The expo and forum were supported by the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) and the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development (LGOP), and organized by the MOA Agricultural Trade Promotion Centre (the Specialized Sub-council of Agriculture under the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade). There were over 200 potato enterprises and research institutes from 13 countries and regions at the expo, involving all the links of potato industry, including breeding, multiplication, processing, supplies, technologies, equipment and facilities, with exhibition area of 8 000 m2. The forum invited scientists and experts in this field for in-depth discussion on the three topics of potato and food security, potato industry and poverty alleviation, and future development and innovation of potato industry.
The expo and forum, as a platform for presentation and exchange of information, technologies, varieties, equipment and facilities of potato industry, would contribute to promoting integration of domestic and international markets. By doing so, it would play an active role in increasing the potato international cooperation and exchange, accelerating the process of potato industrialization, ensuring the national food security, and promoting the work of poverty alleviation and rural economic development.
MOA vice minister Wei Chaoan and vice minister of MOA/DIG Zhu Baocheng paid a visit to the expo. MOA vice minister Zhang Taolin and LGOP Dire General Fan Xiaojiang attended the forum and made address.
