We have joined in the Wage Improvements in Seed Hybrids (WISH) project, a multi-stakeholder collaboration dedicated to improving labor standards in India's vegetable seed sector. Alongside HM Clause and SeedWorks, we join founding partners BASF, Syngenta, and Arisa in this meaningful effort.
Launched in 2022, the WISH project addresses key issues such as minimum wage compliance and child labor within the vegetable seed industry. Currently in its second phase, the project focuses on raising awareness, providing training, and building capacity among workers in the sector. The initiative is co-funded by a grant from the Dutch Enterprise Agency (RVO).
Sanjay Bisht, Regional Director of Enza Zaden Asia, highlights the importance of collective action in driving meaningful change: “When seed companies unite for industry-wide transformation, we can empower seed growers to receive fair wages, improve labor rights, and promote equity within seed supply chains. This project plays a vital role in establishing fair labor standards in India’s seed sector.”
“We are proud to contribute to this collaboration, which reflects our commitment to improving labor conditions and ensuring compliance with minimum wage standards.” says Aniek Verhaar, General Legal Counsel at Enza Zaden. “At Enza Zaden, we prioritize human rights and equality as part of our global compliance goals.”
