Just as the stockings were hung by the chimney with care, the CROPLAN seed team recently wrapped up the rigorous process of selecting its new corn products for 2025.
CROPLAN seed has broad industry relationships that allow for access to top genetics and traits and multiple germplasm pools. This helps ensure the products with the red badge are among the top performing options for growers in today’s variable conditions, to help them see green in their fields and in their pocketbooks.
“CROPLAN seed has great relationships with all the major genetic and trait suppliers in seed,” says Hector De Leon, Ph.D., Director — Seed Products, CROPLAN seed. “That gives us the ability to pick and choose the best genetics and traits from across the industry when putting together a lineup of products that can deliver a high likelihood of success in the field for growers.”
De Leon encourages growers to select products with traits that fit their individual needs based on solid, data-driven insights instead of relying on yield claims. Some of the featured trait technologies in the latest class of corn products from CROPLAN includes:
- RNAi-based traits that offer new protection strategies to control against pests, like corn rootworm. SmartStax Pro hybrids, featuring the first-ever three-way trait stack, provide robust corn rootworm control using RNAi technology, which disrupts the insect’s protein production for survival.
- Trecepta Technology also delivers multi-pest protection, particularly effective against corn earworm and western bean cutworm.
- Additionally, there are VT4Pro hybrids, combining above- and below-ground insect protection, along with PowerCore Enlist, offering multiple herbicide tolerances to 2,4-D choline, glyphosate and FOP herbicides.
The eight new CROPLAN products, including five SmartStax Pro products, delivered an average yield gain of 4+ bushels per acre over the 2024 class. These products are:
- CP3276/SSPro
- CP3818/TRE
- CP3818/VT4P
- CP5009/PCE
- CP5050/VT4P
- CP5272/VT2P
- CP5336/VT2P
- CP5468VT4P
- CP5911/VT2P
CROPLAN corn products come with response-to data from Answer Plot trials across the country that shed light on how each responds to specific management practices, such as fungicide applications, population density and nitrogen use, leading to peak performance and greater returns.
“Our seed product managers and retailers are able to be in the trenches with the products; and because they are in tune with what’s going on in their areas, whether it’s disease challenges or soil types, they know what to look for and then what management practices we should be applying,” says De Leon. “It also allows us to focus in on in-season management with insights like response-to population scores and response-to nitrogen and fungicide scores.”
This also gives CROPLAN seed product managers and retailers first-hand experience advancing products before they become commercially available and ultimately provides them with the information needed to properly position and manage new products for success on growers’ acres.
