Southern Africa - Silverado swiss chard from Sakata

Southern Africa
June 19, 2024

People who don’t farm vegetables could never imagine that growing swiss chard (more commonly known as spinach by South Africans) could be such an economically feasible crop to grow!

Fordhook Giant is the most commonly used variety by all growers, but that doesn’t mean it is the only variety available on the market.

𝗦𝗜𝗟𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗗𝗢 is one of Sakata’s swiss chard varieties that has characteristics different from Fordhook Giant, that fits perfectly into specific markets. Silverado is a very dark green leaf with a glossy appearance. It is more “ruffled” than Fordhook Giant. This dense leaf structure results in heavy leaves, that doesn’t wilt as quickly. Silverado is used by both fresh and processing growers in South Africa, depending on their needs from a variety.

Be sure to ask your Sakata area representative for more information should you have any questions. View Silverado’s technical information on our website: https://sakata.co.za/…/silverado-open-pollinated-swiss…/
