Recently, Qi-Biodesign announced the completion of the equity acquisition of Genovo Bio. After the completion of this equity transfer, the company holds 100% equity in Genovo Bio, and Genovo Bio becomes a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qi-Biodesign.
As an innovative high-tech company driven by gene editing technology, Qi-Biodesign was founded with a vision to innovate independently controlled gene editing tools and make revolutionary breakthroughs in genetic transformation and delivery technologies, and to pioneer their application in important life science research fields such as agricultural breeding. The company focuses on building a high-tech industry chain with the “SEEDITTM Platform” as the core, including the SEED development platform dedicated to the research and development of various plant delivery technologies and the EDIT R&D platform focusing on the establishment of efficient and accurate gene editing systems. This acquisition will further accelerate the construction and development of the company’s SEED platform, strengthen the core technology strength of Qi-Biodesign, establish the company’s dominant position in the field of plant genetic transformation, and further enhance the company’s comprehensive competitiveness in the field of gene editing.
Genovo Bio was founded in 2015, and is one of the first companies in China to engage in plant genome services and product development, and is one of the few companies in China that can carry out editing services and product development for all major crops (including rice, wheat, corn, soybean, cotton, barley, cereals, rape, potato, etc.). Since its establishment, Genovo Bio has established its own efficient gene editing tool delivery and target mutant regeneration platform for a variety of important food crops and cash crops, and its self-developed wheat, soybean and forage systems, protoplast regeneration systems, instantaneous expression plant gene editing systems and the establishment of internationally recognized delivery and mutant regeneration systems for difficult-to-transform crops, and other technological advantages can be completed for The advantages of these technologies are obvious to complete the efficient delivery of editing tools, as well as access to DNA – free CRISPR editing target mutants. In addition, Genovo Bio also independently creates and develops new materials and germplasm with new traits of high efficiency and quality for important food and cash crops, and provides technical services to more than 30 universities, research institutes and related enterprises worldwide.
Dr. Kevin, CTO of Qi-Biodesign, said, “The core challenges in the development of gene editing technology are tool development and delivery technology. With the combination of EDIT and SEED platforms, Qi-Biodesign will be able to provide full process solutions for plant gene
