Organic Seed Alliance is delighted to introduce Dr. Laura R. Lewis as our new esteemed executive director, bringing with her an impressive 30-year career in agricultural systems worldwide.
Before joining OSA, Lewis was a professor at Washington State University (WSU) where she spearheaded the WSU Food Systems Program, seamlessly navigating academic, research, and extension roles. With a Ph.D. in Geography and a degree in Agriculture, her expertise spans agrobiodiversity utilization, leadership, and development. Laura leverages her extensive background to forge partnerships and networks that champion equitable, inclusive programs, fostering a wholesome food system.
Expressing her enthusiasm, Laura remarked, “I am thrilled to be taking on the position of executive director with Organic Seed Alliance. This position is the perfect union of my two areas of expertise: seed systems and leadership. Seed is the foundation of our food system and connects us as humans across so many aspects of our lives – culturally, historically, environmentally, and politically, to name just a few.”
In addition to her passion for plant diversity, Laura enjoys family travels, tending to her property, and indulging in ocean swims.
As we embark on this era of growth and change, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Micaela Colley and Jared Zystro for their steadfast interim leadership. Special acknowledgment is also due to Cara Loriz, our former executive director, whose guidance led to the creation of a new strategic framework shaping our work for the next five years.
To all who shared the position, applied, and contributed to the selection process, we extend our sincere thanks. We are genuinely excited to welcome such a stellar leader to support and guide us in our mission.
