Apply to access the 2024 OzBarley field trials

Australia
November 13, 2023

Barley researchers are being invited to submit expressions of interest for access to field trials of the OzBarley elite panel in 2024.

The GRDC and the OzBarley project, which is being led by the Australian Plant Phenomics Facility and University of Adelaide, will conduct field trials of the core OzBarley elite panel at York, WA; Roseworthy SA; and Wagga Wagga, NSW next growing season.  Researchers can apply to access the trials to measure their trait of interest.

For more information, download the OzBarley 2024 Field Trials information document and application form. (MS Word file, 315kB).

This document includes a project description, participation requirements and the application form.

About the OzBarley project

OzBarley is creating a publicly available Genotype-to-Phenotype (G2P) national data asset representing the breeding history of barley in Australia. Pedigree and genotypic data of the ~220 elite lines making up the OzBarley core panel will be made available to researchers for them to combine with their own phenotypic data, to help fast-track further gene discovery.

The project is funded by the Australian Research Data Commons and the GRDC, with co-contributions from many research and industry partners.

Researchers participating in the 2024 trials can access single or multiple sites. All phenotypic data generated is expected to be shared under FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) after a 9-month quarantine period.  This helps build the OzBarley dataset while preserving the principal researcher’s first mover advantage for analysis and publication.

Early and mid-career researchers can also apply for travel grants supported by the GRDC.

Applications that include travel support must be received by 22 December 2023.
Applications to access the trials without travel support close on 31 March 2024.
