2023 Horizon Ag Louisiana Field Day on June 27

Kaplan, Louisiana, USA
May 24, 2023

See and hear about the new elite Clearfield® variety, CLL19, along with the latest on PVL03 and the Provisia® Rice System, at the 2023 Horizon Ag Louisiana Field Day, June 27, at Richard Farms near Kaplan.

CLL19 was developed in the LSU AgCenter rice breeding program and has very good milling yields, blast resistance and lodging tolerance. It has demonstrated excellent yield potential over the last three years of multi-location testing and has consistently been the top-yielding semi-dwarf Clearfield variety across trials. CLL19 is earlier than most Clearfield varieties and is shorter-statured, with good stem strength. It also has solid ratoon crop potential.

“We know there is a lot of excitement about new CLL19, and our field day will be a great opportunity for farmers to see it in person so they can consider planting it in 2024,” says Dr. Tim Walker, Horizon Ag general manager.

PVL03 in the Provisia Rice System has proven to be an effective tool for controlling weedy rice and resistant red rice on acres across South Louisiana. In addition, there will be updates on new Provisia lines in various stages of development.

Field day participants will also have a chance to hear about new CLL18, a very high-yielding Arkansas-bred variety that was available in a limited launch in 2023, and CLL16, one of Horizon Ag’s most consistent top performers across the South. CLL16 continues to win more and more acres in Louisiana and Texas.

Rounding out the field day will be updates on varieties like CLJ01, a jasmine-type rice that has seen strong interest in recent years, along with high-amylose varieties from Horizon Ag.

Richard Farms is located at 5632 Louisiana Highway 700, Kaplan, Louisiana. The event starts with a field tour at 5 p.m. and will include speaker presentations, followed by a great dinner.

“This is an event we look forward to every year,” says Dr. Walker. “It’s a time we connect in person with our farmers, talk about industry challenges and opportunities, and share the latest on the high-performing products and services Horizon Ag, with our university and industry partners, is bringing to market.”
