IRRI-SARC and ICAR organize Grain Quality Analysis Capacity Development Program

VARANASI, India (29 March 2023) - The International Rice Research Institute - South Asia Regional Centre (IRRI-SARC) and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) organized a capacity development program on grain quality analysis at the IRRI-SARC from March 29-31. In this program, a total of 21 scientists from IRRI, the National Rice Research Institute, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, and Odisha Agricultural and Technical University discussed various aspects related to paddy cultivation, yield, and grain quality, among other IRRI technologies.

Scientists also discussed how modern technology and equipment can play an important role in ensuring better and quality food grains and leave a positive impact on the livelihood of the farmers.
 


 

To complement the discussions, the participating scientists also visited the advanced and state-of-the-art IRRI-SARC laboratories and learned about the advanced equipment used in the Centre.

“IRRI-SARC welcomes proposals for such capacity-building programs and we hope to organize many more such programs in the future. Through these programs, we get a better opportunity to exchange our ideas and work being done in our field, which is very important for the development of research and science,” said IRRI-SARC Director, Dr. Sudhanshu Singh, adding that he looks forward to furthering IRRI-SARC cooperation with all the institutions to improve the livelihood of the farmers and strengthen the rice-based food system.
 


 

The program was organized and facilitated by the Center of Education, Innovation, and Research for Development (CEIRD) in collaboration with the Center of Excellence in Rice Value Addition (CERVA). Dr. Saurabh Badoni, Scientist - Grain Quality and Nutrition, Dr. Uma Maheshwar Singh, Scientist - Innovative Breeding,  Vivek Kumar Singh, Assistant Scientist - Grain Quality,  Dr. Amitava Srimany, Associate Scientist, among others. Dr. Nese Sreenivasulu, Head of IRRI’s Consumer Driven Grain Quality & Nutrition Research and Mr. Gopesh Tewari, Head of IRRI Education were also present, virtually.
