Beck’s Hybrids is pleased to announce the 2010 Beck 300 Challenge top five participants. The Beck 300 Challenge gives growers the opportunity to challenge themselves to break 300 bushels on their farm and achieve it year after year.
“We have broken the 300 bushel per acre attempt five times since 1994 in our Practical Farm Research plots,” said Scott Beck, vice president of Beck’s Hybrids. “We truly believe that achieving 300 bushels requires a special recipe – selecting superior genetics, measuring the right amounts, and combining them at the right time to achieve the ultimate yield. We congratulate the top five Beck 300 Challenge participants in their efforts to combine the right recipe to attain 300 bushels.”

“This is my second year participating in the Challenge,” said Larry Holaday, the 2010 Beck 300 Challenge winner. “Each year I try new management practices, but the ultimate goal is challenging myself to increase yield at a profitable level. With the help of Beck’s Hybrids, I was able to select the right hybrids for my acres and achieve a yield level of 280 Bu./A.”
There were 110 Challenges completed throughout Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan and Kentucky, resulting in an average yield of 221.90 Bu./A. Despite the challenging growing season, 91 percent of the 300 Challenge participants experienced an increase over their historical yield, with an average increase of 32.9 Bu./A.
