Taiwan-Southeast Asia Vegetable Initiative (TAsVI)
December 21, 2022
Building on the success of the Taiwan Africa Vegetable Initiative (TAVI), WorldVeg, with support from Taiwan Council of Agriculture and Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expands its impact in Southeast Asia with the launch of the Taiwan Asia Vegetable Initiative or TAsVI
TAsVI aims to strengthen international collaboration to rescue and safeguard vegetable biodiversity in Asia while enhancing climate resilience, health, and nutrition for the current and future generations.
The project will:
- strengthen capacity and knowledge sharing among national genebanks, starting in Southeast Asia, to improve the collection, conservation, and utilization of vegetable biodiversity
- repatriate unique and lost vegetable varieties collected in the 1990s and 2000s by national genebanks and WorldVeg.
- establish a collaborative platform among national genebanks in Southeast Asia, Taiwan, WorldVeg, and the Global Crop Diversity Trust to facilitate the rescue, conservation, and use of Asian vegetable biodiversity.
