Independent study shows that N-Hibit HX-209 improves soybean yields

Westfield, Indiana, USA
January 26, 2011

Farmers looking to maximize yield potential may want to consider adding N-Hdibit® HX-209 to their seed treatment plans according to data from a new, independent study of soybean seed treatments.

N-Hibit® HX-209 seed treatments contain harpin protein, a natural compound that stimulates plant defense against soybean cyst nematode.

Spanning the last three growing seasons, the N-Hibit® HX-209 study results show soybeans treated with the harpin protein outperform the yields of untreated seeds by an average of 3.5 bushels per acre. In 2010, N-Hibit® HX-209-treated soybeans yielded an average of 56.1 bushels per acre and the untreated check produced yields of 52.9 bushels per acre. The study was conducted by Direct Enterprises Inc., an independent supplier of agricultural products and services.

“Our goal in testing these products is to better understand which products meet the needs of our customers,” said Greg St. Amour, manager of genetics and field trials with Direct Enterprises. “We’ve been conducting field trials for 15 years and the insights we gain from that research enables us to provide our customers with the information they need to make informed purchasing decisions.”

Field trials were for the conducted at 35 sites throughout Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin allowing for the testing of varieties ranging from Group 1 to Group 4 maturity. The same variety was used within each maturity group to increase statistical accuracy. Testing was conducted in a randomized block with 3 separate replications. The planting, spraying and harvesting of the test plots were conducted by an independent third party. All products were tested at the manufacturer’s recommended application rates.
