LS Plant Breeding - Winter oilseed rape candidate varieties Murray and Vegas top latest AHDB trials results

United Kingdom
August 8, 2022

Two candidate winter oilseed rape varieties in this season’s AHDB trials – Murray and Vegas – are top of the RL harvest results table (based on a third of the trials sites validated to date), out-yielding all the currently Recommended varieties.

Murray tops the table of the provisional RL harvest results at 106% of control with Vegas close behind at 105%, both figures based on four year gross output averages.

Chris Guest, managing director of breeders LSPB (LS Plant Breeding Ltd), comments: “Murray and Vegas have already shown great promise in both official
and private trials up to now and these harvest 2022 results confirm that.

“Both varieties have the new RlmS phoma resistance gene that should give long-term and sustainable phoma control and offer an alternative to the existing Rlm7 gene, which is widely found in current oilseed rape varieties.”

“The varieties are very high yielding with exceptional RlmS Phoma resistance, good Light Leaf spot scores, mid-maturity and are very vigorous – particularly in the spring.”
