The Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) has received a licence application (DIR 191) from International Flower Developments Pty Ltd. A summary of the application and a Questions and Answers document are posted on our website under News or search for DIR 191.
Licence application DIR 191 is for commercial import and distribution of cut flowers of GM chrysanthemum. The chrysanthemums are genetically modified for altered flower colour.
International Flower Developments is seeking approval to sell the GM flowers Australia-wide. The GM chrysanthemums are intended for ornamental use and would not enter commercial human food or animal feed.
The OGTR is preparing a Risk Assessment and Risk Management Plan for the application. This is expected to be released for public comment and advice from experts, agencies and authorities in September 2022. There will be at least 30 days for submission of comments.
