The compatibility of specialty crops and the Enlist weed control system

Field planning and flexibility are top considerations when farmers make the switch to the Enlist™ weed control system. So, as Enlist E3® soybeans will be planted on millions of acres in 2021, we turned to an expert. Soybean/specialty crop farmer and Pioneer Sales Rep Matt Hamlin adopted Enlist E3® soybeans last year. His neighboring fields include apples, blueberries, oats, rye, peaches and cherries.

“We’ve been limited in the herbicides we’ve been able to use on our soybean crops and corn crops due to rotational restrictions and also due to the different crops that are raised around us,” Hamlin notes. “This year we transitioned our farm to Enlist and we’ve been very happy with the herbicide kill response and we’ve been really happy with the safety.”

Pioneer® brand Enlist E3® soybeans work well near compatible crops, such as soybeans without the Enlist E3 soybean trait, corn, wheat, alfalfa and sorghum because Enlist herbicides can be sprayed when those crops are adjacent downwind.

To help identify the right products for specific acres, Pioneer tests Enlist E3® soybean varieties, along with pre-commercial and competitor varieties in both research plots and real-world settings. These tests utilize varying yield environments, differing management practices, and many other factors to affirm all varieties perform within the system.
