Nigeria - Stakeholders review and validation meeting on the Draft National Variety Descriptor for selected varieties of rice, maize and soybean

As part of the project “INCREASING PRODUCTION AND DISSEMINATION OF QUALITY EARLY GENERATION SEEDS (EGS) TO IMPROVE INCOME AND FOOD SECURITY OF FARMERS IN NIGERIA” NASC partnered with Premier Seed Nigeria Ltd., Value Seeds Limited, National Cereals Research Institute, Badeggi (NCRI), Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR), Plant Breeders and relevant stakeholders to develop variety descriptors for selected varieties of rice, maize and soybean.
To this end, 17 varieties of Maize, 9 varieties of Rice and 10 varieties of Soybean were planted for characterization and DUS evaluation. Following the completion of the second year DUS data collection and evaluation, a stakeholder review and validation meeting was convened to review and adopt the draft National descriptor as a National working document for Nigeria.
