Bayer CropScience’s Nunhems subsidiary has opened a new vegetable seed processing facility at its site in Parma, Idaho. The company has invested some US$ 30 million in the new facility and in modernizing its existing capacities for seed processing and storage.
Over the course of the almost three-year planning and construction phase, the site has been extended to a total area of 60 acres and has thus almost doubled in size. Bayer CropScience expects the demand from its customers in the United States and the rest of the world for high-quality vegetable seed to continue to increase and plans to further expand its seed business by investing in both research and development and infrastructure.
Parma is the site of the U.S. headquarters of Bayer CropScience’s Nunhems subsidiary which, with annual sales of EUR 240 million (2009), is among the world’s top commercial vegetable seed producers. Here’s where most of the company’s onion and carrot seeds are processed, packaged and stored. Approximately 150 employees work there.
Nunhems has seed production locations in all Western states as well as research facilities in Brooks (Oregon) and Bakersfield, Lodi, Davis and Salinas (California). Nunhems employs a total of approximately 300 staff in the United States.
Bayer CropScience investiert 30 Millionen US-Dollar in neue Saatgutaufbereitungsanlage in den USA
Das Bayer CropScience-Unternehmen Nunhems hat eine neue Gemüsesaatgut-Aufbereitungsanlage am Standort Parma, USA, eröffnet. Rund 30 Millionen US-Dollar hat das Unternehmen in die neue Anlage und die Modernisierung bestehender Kapazitäten für Saatgutaufbereitung und -lagerung investiert. Während der fast dreijährigen Planungs- und Bauphase wurde der Standort auf eine Gesamtfläche von 24 Hektar erweitert und damit nahezu verdoppelt. Bayer CropScience rechnet weiterhin mit einer steigenden Nachfrage von Kunden in den USA und in aller Welt nach qualitativ hochwertigem Gemüsesaatgut und will sein Saatgutgeschäft durch Investitionen in Forschung und Entwicklung sowie in Infrastruktur weiter ausbauen.
Parma ist der US-Sitz der Bayer CropScience-Tochter Nunhems, die mit einem Jahresumsatz von 240 Millionen Euro (2009) zu den führenden Gemüsesaatgut-Anbietern weltweit gehört. Am Standort Parma wird ein Großteil des Möhren- und Zwiebelsaatguts des Unternehmens verarbeitet, verpackt und gelagert. Rund 150 Mitarbeiter sind dort beschäftigt.
Nunhems produziert Saatgut in allen westlichen Bundesstaaten der USA, und hat Forschungs- und Entwicklungsstationen in Brooks (Oregon), sowie in Bakersfield, Lodi, Davis, und Salinas (Kalifornien). Insgesamt beschäftigt Nunhems in den USA rund 300 Mitarbeiter.
