The Board of the International Plant Phenotyping Network (IPPN) has announced that Wageningen University & Research has been elected to organise the 7th International Plant Phenotyping Symposium in October 2021. On that occasion, the brand new and unique Wageningen NPEC facilities will be officially opened. These facilities are part of the Netherlands Plant Eco-Phenotyping Centre (NPEC), a joint plant phenotyping centre between Wageningen University & Research and Utrecht University.
Sustainable plant production
Developing and breeding new varieties of plants with improved performance is necessary for the future. Consistent food and feed supply, scarcity of resources, climate change, and energy use are some of the challenges agriculture is facing. To meet these challenges, we need sustainable plant production with a higher yield using limited land, water and nutrients. The 7th International Plant Phenotyping Symposium will contribute to the global integration of plant phenotyping approaches across all levels of plant systems, from molecular to field. We are proud to welcome the IPPS 2021 in Wageningen.
Netherlands Plant Eco-Phenotyping Centre
NPEC facilitates state-of-the-art measurement of plant phenotypes to support research on genotype phenotype associations. Establishing these associations is critical for the development of novel climate-proof crops and cropping systems required to secure our future high-quality food production at improved ecological sustainability.

Wageningen University & Research organiseert het 7e Internationale Plant Fenotypering Symposium
Het IPPN Bestuur heeft aangekondigd dat Wageningen University & Research is gekozen om het 7e internationale Plant Fenotypering Symposium te organiseren in oktober 2021. Bij die gelegenheid zal de nieuwe NPEC-faciliteit officieel geopend worden. Deze faciliteit is onderdeel van het Netherlands Plant Phenotyping Symposium, een gezamenlijk centrum van Wageningen University & Research en de Universiteit Utrecht.
Duurzame plantenteelt
Het ontwikkelen en veredelen van nieuwe plantsoorten is nodig voor de toekomst. De landbouw ziet zich geconfronteerd met de uitdagingen van een gewaarborgde voedsel- en voedingsvoorziening, schaarste aan grondstoffen, klimaatverandering en energiegebruik. Om deze uitdagingen het hoofd te bieden is een duurzame plantenteelt met een hogere opbrengst op beperkte grond, met beperkte water- en nutriëntentoevoer noodzakelijk. Het 7e internationale Plant Fenotypering Symposium draagt bij aan de wereldwijde integratie van verschillende benaderingen en de fenotypering van planten, op alle niveaus, van moleculair tot op de akker. We zijn er trots op het IPPS 2021 in Wageningen te mogen verwelkomen.
Netherlands Plant Eco-Phenotyping Centre
NPEC faciliteert de ultramoderne meting van plant fenotypes en ondersteunt daarbij de genotype-fenotype verbindingen. Deze verbindingen tot stand brengen is cruciaal voor de ontwikkeling van nieuwe, klimaatbestendige, gewassen en systemen die nodig zijn om onze toekomstige kwalitatieve voedselvoorziening en ecologische stabiliteit veilig te stellen.
