Cibus Global leadership to present at three leading industry events in late October

San Diego, California, USA
October 22, 2010

As Cibus Global, a pioneering plant trait development firm, toasts its U.S. research facilities’ new Platinum LEED-certified location on October 26, it is poised to have a significant presence at three leading biotechnology industry conferences across North America. Over a span of just eleven days, Cibus executives will be welcomed as invited speakers at the International Symposium on Plant Productivity in Ontario, Canada; at the 5th Annual Biotech Summit in Brookings, SD; and at the U.S. Canola Association’s Canola Research Conference 2010 in Long Beach, CA.

“We are pleased to have a presence at these three prestigious industry conventions, which bring together top researchers and decision-makers in the bioscience space,” said Greg Gocal, Cibus Vice President, Research. “As the only global firm offering an alternative to GMO through directed mutagenesis, Cibus’ executives have much to bring to the discussion.”

Gocal is an invited speaker on trait development at the International Symposium on Plant Productivity, from October 24–26. The symposium gathers together researchers in the field of plant productivity improvement. It provides a forum where research in both academia and industry can be exchanged and collaborations built between the public and private sectors.

James Radtke, Ph.D., Vice President, Product Development, will present at the 5th Annual Biotech Summit on October 26. Presented by the South Dakota Biotech Association, the conference will address how South Dakota can capitalize on the growing biotechnology opportunities in the reason. Dr. Radtke will discuss potential growth strategies at the summit’s Plant Science Panel.

Finally, Peter Beetham, Ph.D., Senior Vice President, Research, will speak at the U.S. Canola Association’s Canola Research Conference 2010, held from October 31–November 3. Dr. Beetham will discuss the applicability of Rapid Trait Development System (RTDS™) to providing improvements in canola.

RTDS™, Cibus’ proprietary gene conversion technology, enables seed producers to develop plants that are quicker to market with less regulatory expense. RTDS™ is a non-transgenic approach for providing plant improvements as compared to classical genetic transformation, a process leading to GM products. During the last 18 months, Cibus has successfully secured nearly $50 million in research contracts with partners to develop non-transgenic traits in crops around the world. This has led to a significant expansion of research and commercial based activities for Cibus Global.

Cibus Global develops advantageous crop traits with far-reaching implications in agriculture, alternative energy and product development. Through its proprietary Rapid Trait Development System (RTDSTM), Cibus creates traits in a directed way with more precision than traditional breeding techniques and without the introduction of foreign genetic material. RTDSTM has proven itself in the laboratory with several different applications, as well as in initial field trials of Cibus’ first commercial crop, canola. Cibus’ products will be brought to market through strategic, crop-specific partnerships; in September 2009, Cibus announced a strategic alliance with Israeli-based Makhteshim-Agan to develop traits in multiple crops.
