Stokes Seeds® recently hosted a large group of growers for a two-day onion summit in Wisconsin to view variety test results, storage trial data and new onion varieties from Seminis® Vegetable Seeds. Feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive, with growers commenting on both the experience itself and their excitement around the Seminis onion portfolio.
Commercial producers from Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, and Ontario, Canada participated in the event that included facility tours at Gumz Muck Farms, Endeavor, WI, and Dean Kincaid, Inc., Palmyra, WI, with a welcome reception at J. Henry & Sons distillery in Dane, WI.
During the facility tours, guests engaged with the business operators to exchange ideas and information on crop production, field equipment, product handling and storage, and marketing. The open forum between producers was one of the highlights of the event.
Growers participated in an onion grading session at the Seminis Vegetable Seeds Research Station in Deforest, WI, reviewing dozens of onion varieties harvested from Seminis research trials. Guests also toured the pathology lab and growing chambers at the research station and learned about ongoing onion research projects important to Midwest and Northeast producers.
