The AHDB Recommended List for oilseed rape 2019/20, just released, shows that hybrid variety Wembley's consistently high gross output (102 compared to controls) keeps it in the premier league as fully recommended for the East/West region. Wembley is early flowering (8) with a high resistance to lodging (8) combined with good stem stiffness at maturity (8). This is added to high light leaf spot resistance.

In the clubroot resistant spot for both East/West and North regions, Mentor is still the only fully recommended variety. It is a restored hybrid with a specific recommendation for its resistance to the common strains of clubroot. Mentor has high resistance to lodging (8) and is very stiff-stemmed at maturity (9). Its only agronomic weakness is its lower resistance to stem canker.

LSPB’s new clubroot resistant variety Crome now joins Mentor on the new RL as P1 Recommended and brings a very worthwhile improvement in gross output with an increase of 6% (East/West) and 7% (North). Crome shares the high resistance to lodging and stem stiffness of Mentor.

Theo Labuda, LSPB Managing Director, comments that, “Wembley continues to be one of the stalwarts of the East/West region Recommended List, and we now have Mentor joined by higher-yielding Crome in the important clubroot resistant spot.”
