Gen-X partners with Hudson River Biotechnology for agricultural application of the SuRE technology

The Netherlands
December 30, 2017

Hudson River Biotechnology (HRB) and Gen-X have formed an exclusive partnership for the agricultural application of Gen-X’s SuRE technology.

The SuRE platofrm allows genome-wide identification of gene regulatory elements. It is broadly applicable and has been validated for the human, Chinese hamster (CHO) and Drosophila genomes. Now, Gen-X and HRB will validate SuRE in a plant setting and start its joint commercialization for this field of applications. As one application, HRB plans to use newly identified gene regulatory elements as targets for modification via CRISPR technology.

About Hudson River Biotechnology:

HRB is a biotech company located in the Netherlands, specialized in genetically optimizing plants that are used to produce high value compounds, for example by increasing yields or introducing innovative traits. HRB is active on two fronts: we offer genetic optimization of plants as a service, and we have an active R&D pipeline to develop novel plant traits. HRB closely collaborates with Wageningen University, is linked to StartLife Wageningen (Dutch government support program for “ag-tech” entrepreneurs), in 2015 received a prestigious Horizon2020 grant from the EU, and recently closed a strategic funding round.

 About Gen-X:

Gen-X provides functional genome annotation on an unprecedented scale. We use our unique SuRE technology to profile the strength of gene promoters and enhancers for entire genomes of different organisms and under different environmental conditions. These genome-wide profiles allow us to identify tailored promoter and enhancer combinations for usage in recombinant protein production and gene therapy and in addition can serve as maps for CRISPR-Cas9 targeting.
