Aggressor herbicide receives U.S. EPA registration for exclusive use in the CoAXium Wheat Production System

Ankeny, Iowa and Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
March 8, 2018

Three major agricultural organizations, Albaugh, LLC, Colorado Wheat Research Foundation, Inc. (CWRF) and Limagrain Cereal Seeds, LLC (LCS) have announced the EPA registration of Aggressor™ herbicide, the exclusive-use herbicide for CoAXium™ Wheat Production System. Aggressor™ herbicide will provide growers with a new mode of action to address tough-to-control winter annual grassy weeds, including feral rye, Group 2 or ALS resistant biotypes of downy brome grass and jointed goatgrass. Aggressor™ herbicide will be the exclusive herbicide brand for use with two new CoAXium Wheat varieties. Incline AX and LCS Fusion AX, both hard red winter wheat varieties, are scheduled for a 2018 fall launch with limited amounts of certified seed available to growers in Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Montana and parts of Oregon and Washington. Aggressor™ herbicide and CoAXium™ Wheat Production System are a result of innovative thinking and vision of Colorado growers and Colorado State University. This joint collaboration focused on delivery of novel solutions for wheat producers in North America and around the globe. The new CoAXium Wheat Production technology platform combines a patented herbicide-tolerance trait, elite germplasm, state-of-the-art Aggressor herbicide brands and best-in-class industry stewardship.

“CoAXium™ Wheat Production System was built from the ground up by growers who had innovation, performance and grower value in mind,” stated Chad Shelton, Global Proprietary Products Director at Albaugh LLC. “Aggressor™ herbicide will provide growers with a new grassy weed control tool to help to maximize their return on investment by controlling tough winter annual grasses, including feral rye, Group 2 (ALS) resistant biotypes of downy brome grass, volunteer cereals and jointed goatgrass. Aggressor™ herbicide will deliver to the grower consistent performance for control of grassy weeds resulting in cleaner fields and higher yields.”

“Colorado wheat growers were some of the first to adopt herbicide-tolerant wheat technology back in 2001. So by 2008, they had several years of experience and knew that another tool with better performance and better value would provide a huge benefit to wheat growers.  This registration is a culmination of that original vision, and we’re very excited we could bring a product to market in just 10 years,” said Brad Erker, Executive Director – Colorado Wheat.

“We are delighted to introduce LCS Fusion AX in 2018 — one of the first two varieties for use with the CoAXium Wheat Production System. Although the concept and the first varieties were developed in Colorado, the technology will benefit growers in other regions where annual grass weeds are troublesome. The LCS distribution network is already gearing up to make seed available in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana, as well as throughout the Central Plains region,” stated Frank Curtis, Chief Operating Officer at Limagrain Cereal Seeds.
