Plant phenotyping specialist LemnaTec has established its new North American headquarters in Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina, the largest research park in the United States.
RTP is home to more than 200 companies and over 50,000 people with expertise in fields such as agriculture, micro-electronics, telecommunications, biotechnology, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and environmental sciences. The area is defined by the three hub cities of Durham, Raleigh and Chapel Hill, all of which host major research universities.
The RTP was launched in 1960 as a collaboration between businesses, government and universities. Industries invest more than $296 million in R&D at the region’s universities each year – double the average R&D investment for innovation clusters elsewhere in the nation.
LemnaTec’s award winning technology enables scientists to accurately measure the effects of climate and environment on plant development, and to characterise genomic functionality by analysing digital images. This phenotypic information has enormous value in scientific research, breeding, developing treatments for cultivation, environmental monitoring, and precision agriculture.
“This move reflects the continuation of LemnaTec’s global expansion plans”, says Todd De Zwaan, Vice President Business Development, “and particularly our commitment to growing the business and extending our service capabilities in the United States”.
