Viterra introduces new alfalfa variety

Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada
June 2, 2010

Viterra Inc. is pleased to announce the launch of Halo® , an alfalfa variety specifically designed to resist higher levels of salinity in Prairie soil.

Developed through a careful selection of high yielding commercial strains, Halo was recently evaluated at Canada’s Salinity Tolerance Testing Facility in Swift Current, Saskatchewan and demonstrated superior salt tolerance at both medium and high levels of salinity.

“Halo is a great new forage option for western Canadian producers tailored to meet specific soil and growing conditions. It is a result of close collaboration between our researchers, agronomists and seed marketers who are constantly striving to meet the exacting needs of our customers. It is through our combined expertise that Viterra is able to bring innovative varieties to market,” said Doug Wonnacott, Viterra’s Senior Vice-President, Agri-products.

In addition to improved salt tolerance, Halo comes with an impressive package of traits including good yield potential, quick regrowth and strong winter hardiness. Halo is available at Viterra retail locations across Western Canada.
