Second edition of Seed meets Technology a resounding success

The second edition of Seed meets Technology was a success, with even more visitors attending than last year. With an increased focus on seeds, varieties, cultivation methods and crop protection the fair has been an excellent addition to the Dutch trade fair landscape and the open days of the seed breeding companies in the Dutch Seed Valley region.
Approximately thirty companies from the Dutch seed sector made presentations last week during Seed meets Technology, a trade fair with a very specific target audience. As a result of this focus, the quality of visitors was also very high. The setup with demonstrations, trial fields and symposia on green chemistry for seeds, hydroponics and phenotyping in the future provided ample opportunity for interaction with visitors. The organisation, which consists of Proeftuin Zwaagdijk (Agricultural Research Centre), Seed Processing Holland, Leba Metaalbewerking (metal works) and Incotec (Seed enhancement), maintains a strict concept. Participants are asked to demonstrate new products or services which really have something to show.
Coinciding with the fair, the gates to various variety trials were opened to visitors, including Takii, ABZ Seeds, Bakker Brothers, Seminis and Sakata. Proeftuin Zwaagdijk welcomed visitors to their greenhouse and open field tests while Incotec Enkhuizen organised guided tours. Inside the trade hall, ABZ Seeds provided a presentation on the Delizz brand, which is a specially selected strawberry plant in an attractive gift box. Prudac showed a number of new breeding concepts with tomatoes, bedding plants and mini vegetables. Developments in sustainable treatment of seeds were demonstrated by Incotec and Syngenta Seedcare.
A good example of the technology on display was the demonstration of a brand new seed air separator from Seed Processing Holland plus the HSS800 pelleting and encrustation machine (rotary coater) by Leba. Hoopman Equipment, Agratechniek and Data Technologies also showcased new seed processing technology. Fytagoras, Iribov and Anadis showed methods used for seed analysis to determine, among other things, seed maturity. Botman Hydroponics and Rolan Robotics demonstrated a robotised cultivation concept for hydroponics.
SeedTuning, Gitzels Breeding Services, Proeftuin Zwaagdijk, Aris and Flier Systems revealed new methods for automatic phenotyping of seedlings and disease screening. 30MHz, Seed Conditioning Enkhuizen, Green Simplicity, Certhon and Polytechnic participated with greenhouse and conditioning technology and ABS software provided breeders with information on easy processing of assessments. Fond® provided an explanation on how organisations can adapt to the dynamic seeds sector.
A quarter of the visitors were from abroad. Various open days in the Seed Valley region at seed breeding companies ensured that an extensive programme was available for international resellers, major breeders and professionals in the seed sector. Seed meets Technology is a good technological addition and a platform for seed companies that work with other companies to reach customers.
