LemnaTec announces speakers for PhenoDays 2015

Aachen, Germany
August 25, 2015

Global plant phenotyping specialists Lemnatec has announced Dr Argelia Lorence and Sebastien Carpentier as Key Note speakers at its upcoming PhenoDays 2015 conference in Munich.

Running from 28th to 30th October, the conference aims to address new developments and key issues faced by the plant phenotyping industry. The three day event will host talks from internationally renowned speakers in the seed industry, breeding institutes and academic groups.

This popular annual event provides an opportunity for scientists from all over the world to meet and exchange their ideas, approaches and results in plant phenotyping research. It provides a forum for plant phenotyping researchers at all career levels and particularly welcomes students’ contributions.

New for this year will be the launch of the “Innovation Hub” which will bring together like-minded scientists, academics and commercial organisations to discuss new technology and design concepts to drive the development of future products and phenotyping techniques.

Dr Argelia Lorence, Professor of Metabolic Engineering at Arkansas State University, was part of the team that in 2004 published the discovery of a new biosynthetic pathway for vitamin C in plants. At A-State Lorence leads a research team involved in understanding how plants make this essential vitamin using myo-inositol as the main building block. Her group also studies how vitamin C delays aging and contributes to confer plants tolerance to stresses.

Dr Sebastien Carpentier, professor at the division of Crop Biotechnics at KU Leuven University, has completed several important research projects in his career including ‘The Perception of water deficiency and signaling during salt stress in maize’ and ‘The search for improved shoot growth and fruit yield under salt stress’.

Dr Malcolm Hawkesford, the Head of Plant Science at Rothamsted Research Center based in Harpenden, will also be speaking at the event after recently overseeing the world's first installation of a LemnaTec Field Scanalyzer at Rothamsted.

As well as presentations and talks, the conference will offer a diverse range of activities over the course of the congress including workshops, poster sessions, academic partner sessions, supplier exhibitions and trips to the nearby Bavarian State Research Centre for Agriculture.

Angelika Graf, PhenoDays organiser says: “We are delighted by the success of PhenoDays, it has become an important conference in the scientific calendar as well as a great platform for networking and collaboration. PhenoDays is a fun and informative event and this year’s conference will be bigger than ever, providing an exclusive insight into all aspects of plant based phenotyping.”
