On September 24th various exhibitors of trade fair ‘Seed meets Technology’ organize a symposium on phenotyping: ‘Next generation phenotyping in practice’. The program starts at 13.30 o’clock and is particularly interesting for breeders, researchers, trial field managers and managers of the germination lab. After the lectures one can speak to the lecturers about the presented techniques. The symposium is in English and registering is mandatory. Register online using this link.
Current development in phenotyping
Breeding companies have to deal with a growing number of germination tests and the need to review more plant characteristics in shorter amounts of time. The underlying trend is clear: the standardization of data collection in order to make good decisions.
During the symposium, you can expect an insight into the perspectives of automated phenotyping. For example: better objectivity, saving time and money and the measurability of specific plant characteristics.
Programme
- At the start of the symposium Proeftuin Zwaagdijk gives an insight into the current situation of phenotyping in research and germination labs.
- During a presentation Gitzels Breeding Services highlights their work with the Germination Vision Systems (GVS) in practice. The Germination Vision System is an example of an accessible way of automated 2D phenotyping of seedlings. This technique has been developed in collaboration with Flier Systems and Aris BV.
- Flier Systems explains advanced logistics solutions around phenotyping.
- Aris BV develops hardware and software for processing and interpreting of camera images for phenotyping. They will highlight some of these "smart data" practices during their presentation. Among the methods is the use of drones for trial field assessments.
- Seed Tuning gives a presentation about ‘TreatmentView', a hydro-thermogradient robotic table that assesses seedlings. It is a smart application in which seed treatments can be tested at both drought and temperature stress.
Organization of the symposium
‘Next generation phenotyping in practice’ is organised by Proeftuin Zwaagdijk, Gitzels Breeding Services, Aris BV, Flier Systems and SeedTuning.
