Bayer CropScience Vegetable Seeds, first in the field, first in customers minds - How to better engage with customers?

Acampo, California, USA
June 25, 2015

Usually the best time for viewing trials and promotion is during the harvest – customer’s busiest time. During this time customers have multiple priorities – many urgent, critical and immediate.

What if we could have mature fruit outside of the traditional harvest window?

Through joint cooperation with R&D Acampo Research Station and the Processing Tomato Crop Team, a plot was planted in February at the Acampo Research Station under a high tunnel.

On June 17 processors, growers and industry representatives were invited to the Acampo Station to view a trial weeks ahead of tradition harvest. In addition to the trial, station tours were conducted, and talks were presented by Steve Schroeder (TOP breeder) on Bayer CropScience Vegetable Seeds breeding program and Mark Ricker (Pathology) on disease and disease identification.

The plot contained all commercial, Trial 1 and 2 varieties including two new Bayer CropScience Vegetable Seeds commercial introductions for 2015; Amplio6420 an elongated type, and Spesso6415 a new entry into the viscosity market which is forecast to take significant market share from competitors in 2016.

Sales Specialist Chris Carter discussing trial results with event attendees.

"First in the Field and in the minds of our customers was our goal. With the excellent support of the Acampo Research Station Staff, we had 95% of the processing industry in attendance for the Acampo Processing Tomato Open House - viewing Trail material weeks prior to normal harvest. The full attention of the industry, an innovative approach, valuable content and the added dimension of Bayer Crop Protection in attendance, made this a premier event for our customers. Thanks to all who made this a success" Said Carl Hill, Crop Sales Manager for Processing Tomatoes.

Thinking innovatively, to keep Bayer CropScience Vegetable Seeds first in the minds of our customers.
