Monsanto Europe is thrilled to announce that it has just been recognised by Great Place to Work Institute as one of the Best Workplaces among multinational companies in Europe for 2015. (In fact, we were awarded 24th place!)

This is especially impressive considering more than 2,300 companies participated in 19 European countries where Great Place to Work® is represented. The rankings are determined by the institute’s national surveys that measure employees’ levels of job satisfaction and human resources management’s responses about company culture and employment policies.

Other Monsanto sites have also received awards from Great Place to Work this year, including offices in Poland, France, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain. The recognition covers the full range of the company’s activities in Europe, including the core Agricultural Seeds and Vegetable Seeds divisions.

Here at Monsanto, we strive to build a positive, innovative and enjoyable company culture. We do this through employee engagement activities such as surveys and town halls, career development and leadership programs, everyday teamwork and by supporting local communities. In 2015, several European Monsanto offices have engaged in outreach programs that benefitted local communities. To give just a couple of examples:

Employees in the Netherlands participated in a national volunteer day where they cleaned up playgrounds, planted gardens and trimmed shrubbery. The site also donated vegetable seeds to projects they worked and gave advice to locals on proper sowing periods and- methods.

Romania organised a fundraiser that provided books, toys and chocolate Easter bunnies to children in the Danube Delta, a poor region that relies on subsistence farming and lacks basic needs like electricity and running water.

Antwerp and Romania teams connected two schools through a mutual love of cross-cultural learning in a project called Schools4Schools. The Belgian school organised a toy sale in their local community to buy a much needed printer, classroom equipment, and gardening tools for the Romanian school.

Leticia Gonçalves, President of Monsanto Europe and the Mideast had this to say:

“This prestigious award reaffirms what we already know here at Monsanto Europe – our 3,800 employees take pride in the hard work they do every day to help develop and market efficient, innovative and sustainable agricultural solutions to help nourish our growing world. It is an honour for Monsanto to be celebrated by its employees and independent experts as an organisation that fosters creativity, trust, pride and camaraderie. Monsanto’s public Pledge to behave with integrity in all its business dealings is as important as good human resource policies.”

Ibrahim El Menschawi, Vice President of Monsanto’s Vegetables division in Europe, Africa and the Mideast, said the recognition reflects a strong sense of shared purpose from plant breeders all the way to sales people and customer service.

“We have a strong company culture that is focused on empowering employees to own their own career development as well as deliver transformational solutions to our customers,” he said. “That is very important to job satisfaction and recruitment.”

And Monsanto is more than just a company – we are people, too. Monsanto United States created a few short videos that not only educate our audience, but also help put a face to the name and personalise our organisation. To view these videos, click on the hyperlinks above or visit the U.S. YouTube page. Monsanto Europe’s YouTube also has a few videos that feature employees talking about why they work at Monsanto.

Good news begs to be shared! Given the recent not-so-nice media coverage surrounding the March Against Monsanto, we want you to know there is another Monsanto, a good one, which is a Great Place to Work. We are more than proud of the work our team does every day to deliver transformational solutions that provide the best customer experience in agriculture.
