BASF Canada recognizes Saskatchewan grower, Chris Wittig, for his dedication to farming

Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
March 18, 2015

BASF Canada recognizes Saskatchewan grower, Chris Wittig, for his commitment to agriculture in the second edition of a series of grower profiles.

The Wittig family farming operation began in 1972 when his father moved from Saskatchewan to British Columbia. As a second-generation farmer, Wittig farms about 3,500 acres.

"Our farm has grown into a family affair," Wittig said. "Just in the last few years, I have taken over the family farm from my father and will continue to run the farm with the same care and dedication."

For the last five years, Chris has been growing Clearfield® wheat on his farm. "We really like the Clearfield program and have extremely clean fields. They make us happy and we're really proud to show them off."

"BASF is proud to work with growers like Wittig, who are dedicated to the future of farming and are meeting challenges head on," said Danielle Eastman, Brand Manager Western Herbicides and Clearfield. "It is important to recognize the hard work growers do every day across the country. We look towards the future of farming and work hard to develop products that will benefit farms like Mr. Wittig's."

Wittig understands how important it is to stay ahead of the curve, especially with some of the resistance challenges growers are now facing. To mitigate those challenges, Wittig introduces new products with different modes of action to his farm.

"It is important to use multiple modes of action because it helps delay resistance and maximizes the herbicide technology that we have," said Wittig. "I find overall yield and weed control great with BASF herbicides, and the Clearfield wheat system."

In addition, Wittig uses ALTITUDE FX® on his Clearfield wheat Abound variety. The ALTITUDE FX herbicide provides excellent weed control in cereals, with superior control of volunteer barley.

"I am extremely happy with all our BASF products that we've used. The products help keep our weeds down which allows us to grow a stronger crop."
