At the end of January, Vitalis attended the Organic Seed Alliance’s 7th Organic Seed Growers Conference in Corvallis, Oregon. The conference, located on the Oregon State University campus, drew a record turnout, with 450 participants attending the event in person, and an additional 400 people joining the conference via live webinar. The biennial conference is the largest event focused solely on organic seed in North America. Seed growers and seed company representatives from all over the US and beyond, attended to discuss common issues and goals pertaining to the development of the organic seed sector.

As steadfast supporters of the growing organic seed movement, Vitalis was very happy to help sponsor this amazing event. More than 70 experts presented throughout the course of the two-day conference, on topics ranging from policy to on-farm breeding. Participants of the Pre-conference Tour were treated to a day of exploring seed breeding and production in the Willamette Valley, including in-field screening trials, large scale seed production and research projects at Oregon State University. This conference was unique in its level of participant interaction, collaboration and discussion – it was also a lot of fun, with a high energy seed swap and dance party to wrap up the weekend. One common theme of the conference revolved around the concept of sharing the story of organic seed and plant breeding, and the level of dedication it requires. This has inspired Vitalis to tell our own story, as a company dedicated to breeding and organic seed production, in more depth– look for a series of articles coming out over the next year!
