Harris Moran Seed Company’s 2013 Melon Field Day in Yuma, Arizona exhibited great turnout from industry professionals throughout the Melon Supply Chain, with contingents from both the United States and Mexico. The event facilitated an excellent platform for the discussion of new products, market dynamics, industry challenges and consumer trends.
Living up to its promise of “Bringing the real flavor faster,” the ORIGAMI Melon Class was the highlight of the event. HM showcased a multitude of new ORIGAMI variants in their product pipeline that will soon join the original ORIGAMI variety in providing consumers with unique, flavorful cantaloupes throughout the growing season. ‘This will allow producers to cultivate this type of melon throughout the entire growing season, allowing consumers to have the best eating quality from May to October,’ said Yoav Mendel, Product Manager for Melon.
Another spectacle of the event was MELOSSO, a main season honeydew in the San Joaquin Valley and fall product for Arizona. MELOSSO features remarkable fruit uniformity and significant yield advantage. It has a smooth shell, vigorous plant and nice internal quality – good firmness, high Brix and a sweet flavor profile.
‘The event was well received by participants across the board,’ said Mendel, ‘and HM will continue to host these collaborative events to strengthen our partnerships with key industry players in order to help facilitate growth in their respective businesses’.
