U.S. Association of Official Seed Certifying Agencies (AOSCA) announces the launch of the Organic Seed Finder, a web-based organic seed database

USA

The Association of Official Seed Certifying Agencies (AOSCA) announced the new Organic Seed Finder - a web-based organic seed database - will launch Oct. 1, 2012.

Suppliers and producers of organic seed are encouraged to sign up as a seed vendor.
"Organic Seed Finder couldn't be timelier," said Chet Boruff, AOSCA chief executive officer. "The lack of reliable data is currently a barrier to building the organic seed sector and supporting farmers' ability to consistently meet the National Organic Program's organic seed requirement.

"A national organic seed database is a necessary tool for encouraging the use of, and investments in, organic seed."

Interested individuals are encouraged to participate in an Aug. 21 webinar, which will showcase how it works and what companies need to know. To register for the webinar, visit http://www.extension.org/pages/64782.

For questions and additional information about the webinar, contact Cathleen McCluskey at 360-472-0247 or Cathleen@seedalliance.org.

"This is a business opportunity for our members," said Lisa Nichols, American Seed Trade Association staff liaison to the Organic Seed Committee. "Organic seed buyers now have a new resource to find organic seed."

The Organic Seed Finder is designed to be a user-friendly online database that provides a current listing of seed available.

The American Seed Trade Association is a supporter, and partnered with AOSCA and other industry stakeholders as part of the Organic Seed Working Group, organized by the Organic Seed Alliance.
