United Kingdom - RAGT's RGT Kanzzas tops Dorset oilseed rape trial for yield and light leaf spot resistance

United Kingdom
August 23, 2024

RGT Kanzzas has topped Agrii’s Dorset oilseed rape trials for yield, scoring 115.4% of controls (3.95t/ha), almost three percentage points ahead of its nearest rival.

The treated mean in the trial was 3.44t/ha on the silty clay loam soils near Mapperton. The plots were drilled on 11 September, at 50 seeds/sq m for hybrids.

Although the difference in yield between the top eight varieties in the Dorset trial was not significantly different – they ranged from 3.95t/ha to 3.63t/ha – RGT Kanzzas’ ability to yield has become clear. It has already taken second place in South Wales and third in Scotland, says David Leaper, Agrii’s seed technical manager.

“This puts RGT Kanzzas second overall for yield out of 45 varieties in Agrii’s National Trials. It scored 113% of the mean control seed yield of 4.2t/ha, although I should add there was no significant difference between the top three varieties,” he adds.

RGT Kanzzas also showed the least light leaf spot infection in the 42-variety Dorset trial, scoring 2 out of 9 for LLS presence, where 1 equals zero infection. This maintains its leading position as the cleanest variety in the National Trials.

“From early spring the disease was very active at this site and it was present in most varieties, at very high levels in some,” says David. “Yet again it has provided a very good test, as have our other sites this season, and Kanzzas has come through with flying colours.”
