A part of the Syngenta Flowers Iberia team has traveled to Italy to share different experiences in Lavandula production and cultivation trends with the local team through various visits to producers. We believe in the importance of making these quality visits with the valuable participation of the protagonists, who are the producers of these varieties, in order to understand their needs and how our latest developments adapt to these needs.
The Italian Lavandula market is one of the most important in Europe, with around 25 million units produced, approximately 70% Lavandula angustifolia and 30% Lavandula stoechas. One of the most important production areas is located in northern Italy, in the Liguria region, mainly around the municipality of Albenga.
Forte White – Forte Rose Imp. – Fortissimo Purple
This is a mature market that focuses on the quality of plants produced for export, mainly to central European countries, taking advantage of the competitive edge provided by the Mediterranean climate. The mild winter temperatures allow the plants to be ready a few weeks earlier than in central European conditions.
In this market, Syngenta Flowers' genetic material is gaining more and more market share each year, mainly with the variety Lavandula Stoechas Javelin Fortissimo Purple. Producers highlight its early flowering, transport resistance, and some mention its high durability compared to other varieties during shipments, where the plant can be in the truck for up to 4 days. It also has a great ability to flower after pruning, making it easier for producers to schedule and plan plant sales according to market needs. Additionally, it is a versatile variety that can be used in a wide range of pot sizes, from 13cm pots to 35cm containers.
