- Agreement grants UPL exclusive global access to UADA’s filed patents for Fenclorim seed treatment as a herbicide safener
- The technology will empower growers to effectively control weeds while protecting their crops from herbicide damage
UPL Ltd. (NSE: UPL & BSE: 512070 LSE: UPLL) (‘UPL’) a global provider of sustainable agricultural solutions, has announced a new agreement with the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture (UADA) for exclusive access to UADA’s filed patents covering the novel use of Fenclorim as a seed treatment with micro-encapsulated herbicides to protect crops against weeds.
UPL will utilize these patents to develop and launch new herbicides for use with Fenclorim-treated seeds. Fenclorim has demonstrated excellent and consistent performance protecting rice and other grass crops against Group 15 herbicides, which inhibit shoot growth in targeted weed grasses. This will provide growers with powerful new tools to combat resistant weeds without damaging their crops.
Christina Coen, Chief Marketing Officer of UPL Ltd., said: “This exclusive agreement will bring cutting-edge solutions to growers, expanding our holistic portfolio of crop protection products and empowering growers to achieve higher yields with enhanced safety and sustainability. This agreement exemplifies our OpenAg® commitment to collaboration and delivering positive real-world impacts for growers, food chains, and the planet.”
This long-term agreement was supported by research under UPL’s OpenAg Center in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. This is another clear example of the success of UPL’s OpenAg model which is attracting several partners and technologies to continue the development of sustainable and differentiated solutions.
