Serbia deposited seeds for the first time at the Svalbard Global Seed Vault and our partner, the Novi Sad Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops (IFVCNS) was the coordinator.

They deposited 96 seed samples, including varieties of wheat, rye, barley and oats, and among them were also some genotypes that are included in the Ecobreed project.

The Serbian embassy in Oslo said efforts by the IFVCNS in collaboration with the Norwegian government and the Nordic Genetic Resource Centre (NordGen) had resulted in a “major step being made for food security of future generations in Serbia.”
