Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission - New wheat varieties for 2020

Learn about the latest in wheat breeding and the new varieties for 2021! The speakers for this webinar include:

  • Dr. Richard Cuthbert (01:43), Research Scientist and Wheat Breeder with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, will explain the wheat breeding process, from making initial crosses, to conducting field trials, to the release of the final wheat cultivars.

  • Jim Downey (24:53), Research and Development Manager for SeCan, will present information on newly approved wheat varieties. Jim will cover information from trials and the Saskatchewan Seed Guide, including Fusarium head blight resistance, wheat midge tolerance, plant height, straw strength, and tolerance to environmental stressors such as drought.
