Vidya Sagar Foundation starts two advanced post-graduate diploma courses, one on advanced plant breeding, the other on advanced seed technology

Today, Mr. Parchuri Vidyasagar, the Chairman and Managing Director of Vibha Seeds Group, and the Chairman of the Vidya Sagar Foundation (Vifou) officially unveiled the commencement of two post-graduate diploma courses – one on Advanced Plant Breeding, and other on Advanced Seed Technology – both sponsored by Vifou. In all, 35 candidates were selected for these two courses. The brief inaugural ceremony was held in the auditorium of Inspire, the head-quarters of the Vibha Seeds Group, and the Foundation. The executive director Mrs. Chandravathi, all senior officers and the scientists of the group companies, and Vifou consultants participated. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vidyasagar pointed out the urgent need to bridge the gap between education and employability in our country. Both these year-long courses are fully employment-oriented and will create a pool of trained manpower for the Indian seed industry. Mr. Vidyasagar promised to absorb all candidates successfully completing the course in to the Vibha group companies.
The Vibha Seeds Group established by Mr. Vidyasagar in 1995 is best known for its meteoric rise in the Indian seed industry. The Chairman was recently honored with the ‘Entrepreneur Leadership award for the year 2010 at Agriculture Leadership Summit held recently at National Agriculture Science Centre, Pusa, New Delhi. The research conducted by Vibha group companies on all major field and vegetable crops has resulted in many outstanding new cultivars very much preferred by the farmers. The corporate social responsibility of these group companies will be accomplished through Vifou, which is a registered not-for-profit society under Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956. Its chief objective is to promote the cause of agricultural education, research and development so as to impact on the quality of rural livelihood and to drive socio-economic change in rural India. The consultant of Vifou, Dr Narayanan stated that the Foundation also organizes various charitable activities, besides generously sponsoring scientific debates, exhibitions, seminars and conferences.
